Swim Academy

Participants learn about safe practices in and around the water, including self-rescue techniques, recognizing potential hazards, and understanding how to assist others in distress.

Our swimming program is designed to significantly enhance participants’ physical endurance and improve their techniques across various strokes, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. By focusing on stamina, we aim to develop swimmers’ ability to sustain effort for longer periods, which is essential not only for racing but also for long-distance swimming and water-based activities. The program also places a strong emphasis on refining stroke mechanics—ensuring that each participant becomes more efficient in the water, which leads to faster, smoother, and more effective movement.

In addition to physical training, swimmers are taught the importance of pacing—learning to distribute their energy wisely during races, so they can maintain optimal speed throughout the event. This skill is critical for managing both sprint and long-distance swims effectively.

Furthermore, our program prioritizes water safety, equipping swimmers with essential skills and knowledge that go beyond performance. Participants learn about safe practices in and around the water, including self-rescue techniques, recognizing potential hazards, and understanding how to assist others in distress. This holistic approach ensures that swimmers are not only competitive athletes but also confident and responsible individuals in any aquatic environment.

Swimming Levels

Our swimming program is tailor-made to give your child confidence in the water and to teach them the technique to grow and become strong swimmers. Our swim academy levels target children aged 4-10 years. Feel free to contact us for targeted private sessions eg for babies below 4 years and moms to-be.

Level 1 is our beginners’ class and is typically the first opportunity for children to enter the pool without their parents. Our primary focus is on building water confidence, teaching basic water safety, and developing foundational skills for independent swimming. We maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio to foster strong connections between instructors and children.

Learning outcomes for Level 1:

  • Safely enter and exit the water
  • Understand pool safety rules
  • Comfortably get their face wet
  • Float in a stretched position (on front or back) using aids or support
  • Return to an upright position from floating on back or front, with assistance
  • Push off and glide on front and back to or from a wall (with or without support)
  • Jump confidently from a standing position
  • Swim 3 meters using front paddle without assistance and with head down
  • Swim 3 meters using back paddle without assistance
  • Attempt a simultaneous circular leg action on back or front using a woggle or floats for over 2 meters
  • Perform a treading water action using legs with a woggle
  • Swim independently and safely on seahorses
  • Actively participate in all lesson activities
  • Exhibit good discipline in class
  • Achieve the 5-meter distance award

By Level 2, our children are swimming 5 meters and lifting their heads to breathe. At this stage, we focus on further boosting their confidence. There’s a reduced reliance on buoyancy aids, and teachers gradually take a step back. When possible, we also introduce our swimmers to the deep end of the pool, providing support as they prepare for the next level, where deep-end activities will be included.

Learning outcomes for Level 2:

  • Jump safely from the poolside and return without assistance
  • Blow bubbles at least four times rhythmically with their nose and mouth submerged
  • Perform a tuck float for 5 seconds
  • Achieve a 10-meter distance while rolling to breathe
  • Push off from the wall and glide on back and front without support
  • Regain an upright position from back and front without support
  • Swim 5 meters independently using back paddle
  • Swim 5 meters independently using front paddle
  • Float on their back, tuck to rotate around the horizontal axis, and return to the front
  • Fully submerge to retrieve an object
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the basic Breaststroke leg kick and arm movements, with or without aids
  • Tread water for 10-15 seconds with their mouth above water
  • Show confidence in the water, allowing instruction without a teacher present in the water

In Level 3, children no longer receive in-water support from teachers; instead, instruction and assistance are provided from the poolside. We continue to enhance their rolling technique, placing a strong emphasis on maintaining proper alignment, which is crucial as we introduce more advanced stroke techniques in this and future levels.

Learning outcomes for Level 3:

  • Jump in from the poolside, submerge, and swim back to the wall
  • Push off and glide on their back with arms extended, then log roll onto their front
  • Push off from the wall and glide down to the pool floor
  • Complete a 25-meter Front Crawl with underwater arms and rolling to breathe
  • Swim 10 meters of Backstroke independently
  • Attempt a full-stroke Breaststroke over a distance of 2-3 meters
  • Scull independently, head first, for a distance of 5 meters without aids
  • Demonstrate a dolphin leg kick without aids
  • Perform a sequence of at least three different shapes while floating at the surface
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
In Level 4, our swimmers have developed a strong sense of confidence in their abilities, allowing teachers to utilize the teaching space more effectively and extend swim distances for the group. In addition to focusing on refining a powerful front crawl with good style, fluidity, and grace for distances of 25 and 50 meters, these swimmers also excel in backstroke, demonstrating excellent alignment in the water supported by a strong kick and consistent arm movements. They should achieve a solid basic breaststroke and a convincing butterfly kick.

Learning outcomes for Level 4 include:

  • Enter the pool using two different entry methods appropriate for the setting (e.g., star, pencil, step, straddle)
  • Sink, push away from the wall while on their side, and maintain a streamlined position
  • Complete a 25-meter Front Crawl using side breathing and over-water arms
  • Swim 5 meters of Breaststroke
  • Achieve a 50-meter Front Crawl using side breathing with either underwater or over-water arms
  • Swim 5 meters of Butterfly, incorporating arms and at least one breath
  • Swim 15 meters of Backstroke, maintaining alignment with continuous arm movements
  • Kick 10 meters of Breaststroke on their front using a float
  • Perform a surface dive from a treading water position
  • Execute a forward somersault or handstand
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to signal for help

At this level, the focus is on developing technical skills and building stamina.

Learning outcomes for Level 5:

  • Performing a horizontal stationary scull on their back
  • Executing a feet-first sculling action for 5 meters while horizontal on their back, without aids
  • Completing a 75-meter Front Crawl swim that includes at least six rhythmic breaths
  • Swimming 10 meters while wearing clothes
  • Swimming 10 meters of Breaststroke
  • Swimming Butterfly while incorporating at least three rhythmic breaths
  • Performing a handstand and holding it for a minimum of three seconds
  • Demonstrating the ability to execute correct in-water stroke starts and proper stroke turn
After Level 6 your child can move on to the next phase of their swimming journey. They can confidently transition to clubs or explore other water sports, equipped with the confidence and skills that come from technically proficient swimming.

Outcomes for Level 6 include:

  • Sinking, pushing off from the wall on their side, gliding, kicking, and rotating into Backstroke
  • Sinking, pushing off from the wall on their side, gliding, kicking, and rotating into Front Crawl
  • Swimming 25 meters of Backstroke
  • Swimming 15 meters of Breaststroke while incorporating at least four rhythmic breaths
  • Swimming 10 meters of Butterfly
  • Performing a sitting dive
  • Demonstrating the ability to swim 100 meters using at least three different strokes
  • Executing an Individual Medley swim over any distance with correct starts and turn
